چکیده

Multiagent techniques improves student learning in ComputerSupported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) environments through multiagent coalition formation and intelligent support to the instructors and students. Researchers designing the multiagent tools and techniques for CSCL environments are often faced with high cost, time, and effort required to investigate the effectiveness of their tools and techniques in large-scale and longitudinal studies in a real-world environment containing human users. Here, we propose SimCoL, a multiagent environment that simulates collaborative learning among students and agents providing support to the teacher and the students. Our goal with SimCoL is to provide a comprehensive testbed for multiagent researchers to investigate (1) theoretical multiagent research issues e.g., coalition formation, multiagent learning, and communication, where humans are involved, and (2) the impact and effectiveness of the design and implementation of various multiagent-based tools and techniques (e.g., multiagent-based human coalition formation) in a real-world, distributed environment containing human users. Our results show that SimCoL (1) closely captures the individual and collective learning behaviors of the students in a CSCL environment, (2) identify the impact of various key elements of the CSCL environment (e.g., student attributes, group formation algorithm) on the collaborative learning of students, (3) compare and contrast the impact of agentbased vs. non-agent-based group formation algorithms, and (4) provide insights into the effectiveness of agent-based instructor support for the students in a CSCL environment.

Socio-Cognitive Scaffolding with Computer-Supported Collaboration Scripts: a Meta-Analysis

Scripts for computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) offer socio-cognitive scaffolding for learners to engage in collaborative activities that are considered beneficial for learning. Yet, CSCL scripts are often criticized for hampering naturally emerging collaboration. Research on the effectiveness of CSCL scripts has shown divergent results. This article reports a meta-analysis about t...

Scaffolding group learning in a collaborative networked environment

Scaffolding students in a collaborative networked learning environment requires different instructional methods than in a traditional home or classroom setting. The goal of this research is to understand computer-mediated collaboration in an instructional setting in order to create an effective computer-mediated collaboration tool. We identify ways to support collaboration by examining the inte...

Forming and Scaffolding Human Coalitions: A Framework and An Implementation For Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning Environment

Computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environments are used today as a platform for delivering distance education and as a tool to improve student understanding via collaborative learning methods. The success of a CSCL environment in improving the knowledge of a student depends on the quality of group work of its participants. However, forming human user groups that allow all the use...
